Hong Kong police have issued a warning after 11 Binance users lost $446,000 to SCAMMERS. These customers lost money after clicking on phishing links sent to them in text messages.
Yesterday, police alerted people to the dangerous scam on Facebook with a post called “Cyberdefender.” The same day Changpeng Zhao aka CZ( Bianace CEO) also alerted users on twitter and informed them to be vigilant to avoid these scams.

What the scammers actually did.
The scammers messaged clients claiming to be from Binance. They then prompted the victims to click on the link and verify their identity or their accounts would be suspended. When people click and enter their information, the scammers take control of their account and money . A classic (Phishing scam)
These 11 victims lost more than $446,000 in just two weeks. Police have asked anyone who receives unusual information to report it on their website immediately.
Police Involvement & Previous Incidents
To help, the officers also shared a link to a list of virtual securities markets authorized by the Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) in Hong Kong. Only two platforms in Hong Kong HashKey and OSL have been licensed and approved as security for investors.
In addition films such as “CyberDefender” was launched in May to help Hong Kong residents learn how to stay safe online. Unfortunately, Hongkongers have recently been victims of a larger scam and lost a lot of money to thieves and robbers through fraud and abuse.
The most recent being the JPEX crypto exchange that hit about $180 million. Police have prosecuted more than 2,300 people in Hong Kong. JPEX is unlicensed, promises high profits, but charges fees.
